Explore Seward by Sea with Sailaway Alaska

Embark on a breathtaking adventure with many visitors preferred partner for Seward boat tours. Whether you're drawn by calving glaciers, breaching whales, or the raw power of Alaska’s wilderness, our Seward tours promise unforgettable encounters on the water.

Why Choose Seward, Alaska for Your Adventure?

Nestled between towering peaks and the pristine waters of Resurrection Bay, Seward, AK, is one of Alaska’s most scenic and accessible coastal towns. Located just 127 miles south of Anchorage, Seward is reachable by car in 2.5 hours via the stunning Seward Highway—one of the most beautiful drives in North America—or via the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic, a jaw-dropping train ride through mountains, fjords, and forests.

More than just a departure point, Seward is a destination in its own right. With a lively harbor, thriving summer tourism, and direct access to Kenai Fjords National Park, it’s the ideal hub for Alaska boat tours. Visitors flock to Seward each year for its proximity to glaciers, marine wildlife, and outdoor experiences that can’t be found anywhere else in the world.

The Sailaway Alaska Experience: More Than Just a Tour

When you book a Seward boat tour with Sailaway Alaska, you're not signing up for a generic cruise. You're joining a curated experience led by passionate locals who know these waters inside and out. Our captains and crew prioritize safety, comfort, and immersion—so whether it's your first time in Alaska or your tenth, you'll leave with new stories and a deeper connection to this wild land.

Our sailboat is designed for small groups, making each trip more personal, with plenty of space to roam, snap photos, and soak in the scenery. Our tours go where bigger vessels can’t—through narrow fjords, around rocky coves, and into hidden inlets rich with marine life. From intimate wildlife watching to adventure sailing, we offer flexible packages tailored to your travel style.

🛳️ Stroll the Seward Waterfront

The paved waterfront trail offers stunning views of Resurrection Bay, boats in the harbor, and maybe even a sea otter or two lounging near the shore. It's perfect for early morning coffee walks or evening strolls before dinner.

🎨 Explore Downtown Art & Culture

Downtown Seward is compact, charming, and full of personality. Check out local artisan galleries, gift shops with handmade crafts, and seafood restaurants dishing up fresh halibut and king crab. Don’t miss the historic murals that adorn many buildings.

🥾 Conquer Mount Marathon

Whether you hike it or just admire it, Mount Marathon looms large over Seward. The annual race up this mountain is legendary, but even casual hikers can find routes that reward them with sweeping views of the harbor and bay.

🐾 Visit the Alaska SeaLife Center

Explore Alaska’s only public aquarium and marine research facility, where you can come face-to-face with puffins, sea lions, jellyfish, and octopuses. It’s a family-friendly, educational stop just steps from the harbor.

🏔️ Hike Exit Glacier & the Harding Icefield

A short drive from town and an easy walk takes you close enough to hear the ice crack at Exit Glacier. For a more strenuous hike, the Harding Icefield Trail climbs 3,500 feet to panoramic views over 300 square miles of glacial ice.

🌲 Explore Caines Head by Trail or Kayak

Accessible at low tide or by water, this state recreation area blends history with natural beauty. Explore WWII bunkers, wild beaches, and trails through spruce forest while enjoying views over Resurrection Bay.

What You Need to Know Before You Sail

  • Late May to early August is ideal. June and July offer the most daylight and active wildlife.

  • Depending on the tour, you may see puffins, sea otters, seals, sea lions, eagles, humpback whales, orcas, or even porpoises.

  • Tours run rain or shine—this is Alaska! We provide covered areas and heated cabins. Dress in layers.

  • No experience needed. Sit back and enjoy, or help hoist the sails if you'd like.

  • The motion of a sailboat is very different from a powerboat. The heavy keel and sails help to create a more stable movement through the water. However, anyone concerned might want to look into over the counter medications. The gold standard seasick medicine is a scopalomine patch, which can be prescribed by a doctor.
